Strengthening Mahila Arogya Samiti (MAS)

Strengthening Mahila Arogya Samiti (MAS) - In 2012, National Urban Health Mission (NUHM) was launched to meet the healthcare needs of the urban poor. The program defined community-based interventions as ‘community processes’. One of the major components of community processes under the NUHM is Mahila Arogya Samiti (MAS). Mahila Arogya Samiti (MAS) is local women’s collective. In Chhattisgarh, MAS formation started since 2012. As of today, there are 3754 MAS across 20 cities in the state covering more than two million population in urban slums and vulnerable areas and adjoining households. As per programme monitoring data, about 95% MASs regularly organize their monthly meetings and monitor health and social determinants related services using a monitoring tool. The monitoring tool captures both coverage and quality of government services. Based on the gaps identified, collective action is undertaken for local resolution of issues.
