History of SHRC
In year 2001, Government of Chhattisgarh initiated measures to strengthen the
health system of Chhattisgarh and announced a statewide programme of
Community Health Workers called Mitanin Programme. SHRC was conceptualized
as a collaboration between Government and civil society in order to provide
necessary technical support to the health department for designing and
implementing health sector reforms in the state including community-based
health programmes like Mitanin. The health department entered into a MoU with
ActionAid India, a civil society organization for setting up SHRC. SHRC was
registered as an autonomous society in 2004. It has a 17 member Governing
Board including three ex-officio members from health department. SHRC has an
MOU with the State Health Society of Chhattisgarh government and the MoU is
renewed periodically. Since its inception SHRC has been working together with
the health department in areas of community processes and health-systems
strengthening.
