Profiles of the Members of the SHRC Core Team

The SHRC core team comprises of Dr. T. Sundararaman, the Director and  designated Programme Coordinators. The profiles of the core team members are described below. 

Dr. T. Sundararaman : A postgraduate in general medicine, Dr. Sundararaman is on deputation from his post as professor of medicine at JIPMER, a central government institution located at Pondicherry. Dr. Sundararaman has been actively involved in both the People’s Science and Literacy Movements and in Health Movements in the country. He is a founder member of the All India People’s Science Network (AIPSN) and the Bharat Gyan Vigyan Samiti (BGVS). Dr. Sundararaman has been on deputation to the Literacy Mission, Government of India from 1991 to 1993. He was one of the national coordinators of the People’s Health Assembly, 2000 and the Jan Swasthya Abhiyan. As a part of his association with the People’s Health Movement, he was involved with initiating and guiding community health interventions in more than 30 blocks of the country in Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal, Bihar, and Jharkhand. Dr. Sundararaman has authored over 60 books in the area of health education and health policy.  

As the Director of the State Health Resource Centre, Dr. Sundararaman has steered the work of the Centre and has been involved in the conceptualisation, operationalisation and implementation of the Mitanin Programme and the Health Sector Reforms in Chhattisgarh. As a member of the NRHM Mentoring and the Coordinating Committee, he has been guiding the development of the Mission in a pro-poor direction, and has been involved in various aspects of revising and formulating training modules for the ASHA Programme, facilitating the initiation of the NRHM process in different states and recommending architectural corrections of the health sector. Dr. Sundararaman is considered an advocate of public health and as a sectoral resource. 

V.R. Raman: A postgraduate in English and Linguistics, Raman has been a cultural activist since an early age. He has been involved with the Kerala Shashtra Sahitya Parishad, the precursor of the Science Movement in Kerala for over 18 years. He has been the National Coordinator for North India for the Bharat Gyan Vigyan Samiti for 9 years and has been involved in the People’s Health assembly as the Convenor for the Uttar Pradesh Chapter. He was also the chief functionary for "A Multi Sectoral Approach to Health" a government of India pilot  study on decentralised district health planning funded by UNDP in 2 districts of U.P/Uttaranchal- Raebareli & Pithoragarh.  

As the State Programme Coordinator of Mitanin Programme in the State Health Resource Centre, Raman has been actively involved in designing the Mitanin Programme, formulating training modules and conducting training for the various cadres of health personnel, in creating monitoring and evaluation criteria and formats for health information systems for the Programme.  

Dr. Premanjali Deepti Singh: A clinician with expertise in obstetrics, Dr. Singh has worked for over two decades in Mission Hospitals across Northern India. She is a member of the Executive Committee for Mission Hospitals in Chhattisgarh as well as the Executive member of Chhattisgarh Multipurpose Polytechnic.  

As a Programme Coordinator in the State Health Resource Centre, Dr. Singh has been playing an anchor role in conceptualising the health sector reforms in the state of Chhattisgarh, and has authored related documents and policy briefs like the Standard Treatment Guidelines, Drug Formulary, guidelines for Emergency Obstetric Care for medical officers and the malaria control strategy. 

Dr. Kamlesh Jain: A postgraduate in Preventive and Social Medicine, Dr. Jain also holds a postgraduate diploma in Maternal and child Health. He has been involved as a volunteer in various community health initiatives with the JNM Medical College, Raipur and has served as a medical officer and director at the Prani Mitra Charitable Hospital. 

As a Programme Coordinator of the State Health Resource Centre, Dr. Jain has been made significant contributions to the operationalisation of the Mitanin Programme on the field. He has been extending his support to different cadres of the field staff in the Programme as well as in monitoring their performance and formulating evaluation formats and health information systems.

Avinash Loomba: A postgraduate in Public Administration, and also a mechanical engineer, Avinash started his career as ICDS Project and worked for 8 years in capacities of CDPO and District Project Officer ,left ICDS , he worked with CARE for 4 years as  Capacity Building Officer .

Avinash joined State Health Resource Centre  as Programme Coordinator in 2006 and he is supporting Mitanin programme at state level.

Rambir Singh Sikarwar: A postgraduate in Management with specialization in Hospital Management, Rambir is perusing a Ph.D in Public Health .Started his career as Consultant in World Bank funded project at State Institute of Health Management and Communication, Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh).He was working as State Training Manager under Reproductive and Child Health Project II and NRHM at State Programme Management Unit, Dehradun (Uttaranchal)

Rambir Singh is working as Programme Coordinator in State Health Resource Centre focusing on capacity building of District health resource groups under Public Health Resource Network. He is responsible for the documentation and dissemination of experience under Public Health initiatives like Mitanin Programme in Chhattisgarh
